It depends on what you compare her with. She's not slower than most of the European post players that are 1.95m and taller.

Fans from Spain were yesterday in Arena Łódź, and they still remember Małgorzata Dydek. Bravo for them!

Heavy hands for Montenegro, every thing is just short for them.

Aww, sweet, we'll get to play Lithuania. So even though that game won't mean much standings wise, at least we know the teams will have extra motivation to play as is always in the Baltic derbies.

Danilochkina seems to have finally arrived as a top tier player European player, if Russia wins this she has to make the tournament five ( to all the journalists there).

It seems to me that she moves slower than any post player who participates this tournament, esp. with her turn-around footwork. Her teammate, who also has attended U20, Giedre Paugaite looks much better.JohnyK wrote:misspeach wrote:Petronyte is way too slow (

Well because we never had an international success with our Women BBall Team.. and after e have started so badly into the tournament we lost our interest. I could watch the game today either.. all i saw was nevriyes last free throw and the boy crying )
Russia is the favourit, but Turkey showed that they are good for suprises.. Anyway biggest success in turkish Women BBall .. Hope this will continue.

I'm over the moon friends. Turkey made the fairy tale come true. They never gave up the fight and have made a perfect defence. Birsel Vardarli was also magnificent(very lucky also, made amazing shots). As I wrote before everything can be expected from this squad and they did it.

Two teams in the final who barely beat GB. Clearly we were right on the brink of winning this tournament...

Just compared Petronyte to Zane Tamane. She wasn't slower.

Baško, Kubliņa have retired from Latvian NT. Maltsi said she'll retire from the Greek NT if they don't qualify for the Olympics. I heard something similar about Kaltsidou or Kalentzou, can't remember which one.
What about Spain? I figure Valdemoro era has ended. Aguilar?
If Russia wins, what are the odds that this, Stepanova's 8th Eurobasket, will be her last?

Would it help Turkish team if they had Tuncluer? Vardarli probably wouldn't have such an impact while splitting ballhandling duties with Esmeral.

Esmeral Tuncluer would have helped more than enough. She has pretty good Throwpercentages, also her defense and gamereading would be very important.

Starting with quarterfinals Russia has looked like the best team in the tournament. So this win is expected and deserved. Congrats.

Can't add anything to this. A well deserved championschip..They outrebounded us and made a really good defense.. only way to break through was to penetrate and get the ball outside for a 3 throw, but we hardly scored them.. Stepanova and Danilochkina played excellent tonight.

Not sure I agree with the tournament five. Mine would have been Vardarli, Elhotova, Danilochkina, Perovanovic, Gruda.

What about Iva's Perovanovic's injury? is it serious?

Re: Eurobasket 2011 discussions
No, it's not too serious as was originally thought. In hospital they diagnosed her with an ankle sprain instead of previously reported torn knee ligaments. She'll undergo MRI in Montenegro to determine the course of treatment but I guess she'll be ready for the season in Polkowice.

fortunately/luckily !!
that's from official facebook website about EuroBasket'11,
https://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/EuroBasketWomen2011
'We have some good news about Iva Perovanović. Early reports indicated she suffered ligament damage to her knee, but after medical examinations doctors excluded that option. Injury isn't that seriuos and we should expect a soon recovery.'
and something from CCC Polkowice website:
Iva Perovanovic’s injury fortunately not so serious
http://basket.cccsport.pl/en,news,397,Kontuzja-Ivy-Perovanovic-na-szczęscie-nie-tak-grozna.html
'We would like to inform you, that Iva Perovanovic’s injury turned out to be less serious than supposed and the player should join the team of CCC Polkowice in her optimal form before the beginning of the 2011/2012 season.
The new CCC Polkowice player suffered a very seriously looking injury of her right knee several minutes before the end of the match for the fifth place in Eurobasket between Montenegro and Croatia. That match decided about which team is going to play in the next year’s qualifying match for the Olympic Games in London.
Right after the match the representative of Montenegro went to hospital, where preliminary examinations were carried out, not giving an ultimate answer, though, about what had happened to the knee.
On Sunday, on the initiative of our club, Perovanovic underwent an examination with magnetic resonance, which excluded tearing or straining tendons. It means that, after several weeks’ rest the strong, 28-year-old, forward player will surely be able to start individual trainings, to appear in Polkowice in September and together with her team-mates from the CCC team prepare herself for the new season.
Let us add, that during the Championships of Europe Perovanovic had impressive statistics: on average 16.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists. As for the points scored and the field-goal percentage in the tournament there was not a better player than the new CCC Polkowice player. Montegro, however, lost against Croatia by 59:73 and in the qualification for the Olympic Games their rivals are going to play.'
